Barbershop

Sweet morning - went to the Barbershop with M. Smiled to myself as I listened to him brag to the barber about expecting his new daughter. Drove the back way to work and snapped this pic.

The rest of the day was rough - work stress, but I'm only focusing on that moment for now.

Friday we start our mini vacation, and every morning will be like this one!

Twilight-Zone Tuesday

Sometimes I get up in the morning and have that one, sweet moment that really sets the tone for a wonderful day. Other times, from that moment on, it's all downhill. That's what today was like.

I got ready this morning and blabbed on and on to M about how I have my Data Plan all figured out. I've basically set up my phone for optimal (minimal) data usage:

It's kind of amazing, really. This involved turning off all alerts in both General and Application Settings. Instead, I set up notifications via text message (Free with Unlimited Texting!). I have pinpointed all the wireless hot-spots between work, home, favorite restaurants, and all major department stores, just in case I need to download a large file away from home. I downloaded a Data-Monitoring App which alerts me when I've used too much data. And, finally, I've calculated my daily data allowance, to set a short-term data goal for myself.

Anyway, after I explained to M my extremely detailed plan about how I was going to outsmart AT&T, he said, "I just wish you'd relax and enjoy your new phone... If you go over your data plan, it's not the end of the world."

So I hugged him tightly and told him I love him oh so much and that I don't show it nearly enough. He rubbed my big baby belly and said, "Oh, you're showing it." What a sweetheart! I went out the door with a big grin on my face.

Then the descent.

I got to work, and everyone was angry. Employees were yelling one complaint after another. One older gentleman accused me of not eating enough lunch for me and the baby. (He only saw me making a pasta bowl and didn't notice the plate next to me with a bagel & cream cheese, 2 cheese sticks, a yogurt, and blueberries.) When I escaped back to my desk, another employee ran over and said, "Come quick! B is dead!" We ran over to B's desk, but she was... only sleeping.

After that incident, the CEO came running through the building in a panic, screaming "Fire!! Fire!!!" We all rushed outside to find out that this was the company's way of saving money on an official fire-department Fire Drill.

When I got back inside, I decided to check my cellular data usage app. 1MB?! 1MB!! How could this have happened?? What is my phone doing? I have everything shut off!! I realized that, under General Settings for Mail, Calendars, etc., I had to shut off the "Push" option under "Fetch New Data". It was checking for mail almost constantly throughout the day, when I didn't have access to wi-fi.

Good lord... "Siri, hold my calls." I'm putting up the Fly-Away Post-It and going home!

Snowbank

I couldn't find the windshield scraper this morning, so I did something I normally can't stand to do... I turned the defroster on high and waited for the windshield to clear.

It was excruciating. Why couldn't I just sit back, relax, and enjoy a moment of peace and quiet?

Instead, I realized that the windows were frosty too and tried rolling them all down to get the frost to scrape away. I fiddled with the radio, adjusted my Halloween costume, tried the wipers to see if that would help.

And finally, I took this picture. Maybe I finally captured a true moment of serenity! But to me it feels like being stuck in a snowbank.

Apps After the Snow

So, I'm still not sure what to do with the Siri feature. I get it and all... I've made a shopping list, and I've asked it to set the timer for me. But that's as far as my imagination has taken me.

Oh, well I asked her where Santa Claus was, but she was confused, because Santa wasn't in my Contacts. Hmph.

My husband (M), on the other hand, has asked her everything from "What is the answer to life?" ("42," it smartly responds.) to "What are you wearing?"

This question prompted my favorite response yet... "You have the wrong personal assistant."

I have to admit that I'm also *thrilled* to have a pretty fancy camera (by cellphone standards) and yes, even Instagram. I know it's widely overused, but I'm just getting in the game and still kind of in love with that Polaroid glow.

iPhone

So, I've officially joined the iPhone owners club! I resisted for so long, mainly because of the cost, and because I was determined to find a phone that did basically the same thing for cheaper. After trying 4 different phones, I caved. Especially since the 4S came out, the iPhone is clearly the best... And now I have no excuse to avoid blogging. Blogger App Go!

It's just so gosh-darn perty!
